Stress Relieving

A process carried out in one of our air circulating or muffle furnaces.

To stress relieve steel items or bars the components are heated to approximately 550°c to 580°c, allowed to equalize and soak followed by slow cooling in the furnaces. This allows any residual stress to dissipate and final machining accuracy will be easier to maintain.

It can also be an advantage to stress relieve before any other heat treatment process is carried out as, by its very nature, the heat treatment and quench cycle can introduce stress into your precision machined item and cause distortion.
